“The Department of Justice has been alerting the banking industry about failures to comply with the ADA as it relates to web accessibility. We recently identified the top 15 highest-trafficked banking websites and - using our a11y® Pleatform - scanned them to determine how well they could be navigated by someone with a disability. These websites included JPMorgan Chase, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, TD Group, and U.S. Bancorp.

According to our results, the average failure rate of the accessibility of online content within these corporations was a disappointing 58%.

Ensuring website accessibility for persons with disabilities isn’t just a “good business practice” and ethically correct, it’s the law, according to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and corresponding Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level A/AA.

Those who fail to comply will likely face a Demand Letter or lawsuit faster than you can say “brand damage” five times fast. So how difficult can it be to get started on your path to ADA compliance?

According to The Financial Brand, “Complex is the word that best describes the process financial institutions must go through when preparing to conform with the Americans with Disabilities Act.”

The Bureau of Internet Accessibility is here to help eliminate just such complexity, as well as the time, money, and effort that you would be forced to invest without partnering with an experienced digital accessibility leader.

If you need to ensure greater website accessibility and compliance for persons with disabilities, don’t go it alone. The Bureau of Internet Accessibility has been helping banks, credit unions, and other financial and insurance institutions achieve compliance for more than 20 years.
